Despite what your buddy assures you, BC is closed. Give it another week or so.

Trail is still closed during spring thaw. The process of thawing and drying out is going well, but it simply takes some time. There is still standing water on parts of the trail. Thank you for staying off of the trails during this time.

Sloppy, Wet
We’ve noticed quite a few people ignoring the closed gates and riding and walking the trails. The trail is very vulnerable to damage during the spring thaw. If you see anyone on the trails, please do your best to educate them in a peaceful manner on why they should not be out there. Thanks for your help and try to be patient. The Excel energy trail in Shakopee is open and riding really good. That would be your answer for now. Thanks

Freeze/thaw
The trail was just checked, we are getting closer! Nearly all of the standing water is gone leaving behind muddy spots. Unfortunately, the trail surface froze again this weekend so we are currently in the freeze/thaw cycle, there is a surface slime on a lot of the trail with frozen dirt underneath. We won’t be able to open until the temperatures are consistently above freezing overnight and the trail has had a chance to thaw and dry out fully. Here’s to hoping for warm and windy days! Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

Wet, Muddy
Chocolate mousse season right now. We’ll remain closed. This will be an extended closure for the spring. We will reopen after the frost has gone out, and we’re consistently above freezing, and once the trail has dried out. Yearly reminder that walking and biking on the trail during the spring thaw creates lasting damage that can last for years until it’s fixed (spoiler alert: we already have issues to fix in the coming dirt work season). Thank you for abiding by trail closures!

Does your bike look like this, or are you leaving ruts like these? If so, we expect to see you at trail work sessions this spring! Right now the trail is most vulnerable to damage due to thawing so it is imperative everyone stays off until spring opening. The longer it takes for repairs, the longer it'll take for spring opening...

Muddy, Freeze/thaw
Just a friendly update. We remain closed, but the rain yesterday and temps in the current forecast looks favorable for sooner than later opening of dirt season. Hoping for mid April at this point. MPRB has been working on installing brand new and fantastic wayfinding signage through out Theodore Wirth Regional Park. (Photos) If you’re cruising by on the paved trail stop and check out some of the signs. They are super informative and contain helpful information like a system map, trail ratings, trail rules/guidelines and even a QR code to scan to get the official trail conditions. Connecting the dots between trail sections has always been a challenge for new comers and old comers alike. We are super pumped and appreciative of the effort MPRB put into this. It is still a work in progress but more and more signs are showing up and getting installed. Check ya later.
